Middle Section
As you approach the launch area to the middle section of the Ocoee River, you will see a dramatic rushing mountain of water coming over the dam and your heart will thump louder than the rushing rapids below. As soon as you launch into the river you will meet the first rapid on your trip, a class III aptly called Grumpy and soon you’ll find out why the Ocoee is called a roller coaster on water. This five-mile section of surging whitewater has almost continuous rapids until you hit the half-mile section known as the Doldrums where you can jump out of the raft and swim a bit. Every raft will have a certified guide. You’ll get up close and personal with such memorable rapids as Slice N’ Dice and Broken Nose. Experienced rafters as well as adventurous first timers will enjoy this adventure through the Cherokee National Forest.
