We are excited to offer a new opportunity for families who experience special needs challenges when celebrating the Mass together as a family. On the first Sunday of each month at the 12:45 pm Mass, the front section of the Parent Room will be setup with sensory friendly materials and visual supports to provide a reserved area conducive to the needs of your family.
This is an option for you to use whenever you choose. You do not have to sign up for it. You are always welcome to celebrate the Mass in the Nave as well or you could choose to do both.
If you know families who are no longer attending Mass because they felt too overwhelmed or their child could not make it through Mass without melting down, please share this exciting news with them and welcome them back to Saint Michael's Church!
This Sensory Friendly area can be requested by your family for a special event being held at our church that you want to attend such as a wedding, funeral, or other church event. Please contact Lisa Swantek at 678-910-6795 if you have questions or to make this type of request.
We are in need of volunteers to setup and monitor the room, and put things away after Mass. Procedures will be emailed to you and can be found on Sign Up Genius. If this is something you would like to try, please sign up for an upcoming Sunday using the Sign Up Genius link below. We really appreciate our volunteers!!
After much prayer and many choices considered, the committee has decided upon a name for our Special Needs Ministry that we feel truly reflects the families we support here at Saint Michael the Archangel! We are incorporating the name of Saint Joseph of Cupertino, because his daily life was filled with similar struggles and challenges that our family members and ourselves face everyday, too. As Nicole Reppe says, "In keeping with my favorite expression “it takes a village”, I realize how important it is to create a village in our faith community...I believe our children learn from everyone and it’s our job to be educators to
all children and not just our own." So, this is how Cupertino Village was formed. We hope you love it as we do!
Here is the story of Saint Joseph of Cupertino as told by Sister Mary Martha on her blog:
