Intake Volunteer
The Intake volunteer usually makes the initial contact between the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the member of our community in need. the intake volunteer retrieves recorded calls from the SVdP intake line, a voice mail line established to provide a means of communication for those in need of the Society's help. by leaving a message and a return number to call, a person or family in need of assistance is assured that someone will return their call. The intake volunteer, after retrieving the call by using any phone, assesses the needs of each caller, and then returns the calls, usually within 24 hours. This return call is very important because it establishes a basis for the next step in the helping process. And often the real needs of the client are determined through this call-back method. Based on the needs presented, the intake volunteer will either give the client information on other resources for assign a 'home visitor' to work directly with the client.
All contact with the client by the intake volunteer is done over the phone, making this volunteer opportunity ideal for the stay-at-home parent, a student with extra time between classes, retired folks, or anyone that has a phone and a little extra time. "One life at at time"
